EASST 2022 Short Story & Poetry Competition

During the upcoming EASST conference, one sub-plenary session explores different ways that speculative and science fiction (SSF) are used. They can be a source of visions and imaginaries for scientists, engineers and others. They can also be used as a method and device for STS scholars to engage with interlocutors during fieldwork and with wider audiences. The aim of the sub-plenary is to stimulate the (individual and collective) EASST imagination through paying attention to and engaging with poetic, literary and artistic renderings of techno-scientific futures. We have expressed the title of this session in the form of a haiku:

methods, forms and norms

techno-science-fictional

gazing at the stars

To help realise this aim and to simulate your imaginations, we are organizing the first-ever short story, flash fiction, and poetry competition for EASST members. Winners will be announced during the conference. There will be prizes. Winning entries will be published in the EASST Review. Deadline for entries is 16 May. Full details and rules for this competition can be found on the conference website here: EASST 2022 | Politics of technoscientific futures

I am co-organising the subplenary and this competition together with Michela Cozza (Mälardalen University) and Nina Klimburg-Witjes (University of Vienna).
