Promoting good science
Since the beginning of 2021, I have had the honour of chairing the Committee Promoting Good Science (PGS). This is a committee of ZonMw which ‘stimulates health research and innovation’, though PGS is about all research, not only health and medicine. PGS is a follow-up to the Fostering Responsible Research Practices Programme (FRRP). FRRP supported important research and activities about how to improve the science system. PGS will carry on this excellent work, and focus on good examples and practices of research.
Most researchers want to do their work well and with integrity, but most media attention is on the rare cases of fraud and plagiarism. I discuss this more in an interview with ZonMw, published in April 2021. In that interview, I remind readers that what constitutes good research is very context dependent. It can also differ between disciplines and change over time.
Keep an eye on the ZonMw website, as we will be announcing a call for proposals later in 2022.
